GB bishop accuses authorities of destroying country’s Christian heritage

Bishop Ceirion H. Dewar of the Confessing Anglican Church (CAC) published an open letter to the people of Great Britain in which he spoke of a profound crisis of Christianity in the country. According to the hierarch, the government has failed to protect the nation’s Christian heritage, while the official church structures have in many respects abandoned the defense of the truth entrusted to them.

Dewar said he decided to appeal directly to the nation after his previous letter to King Charles III went unanswered. The immediate cause of his sharp criticism of the monarch was what he described as the King’s demonstrative disregard for tradition: this year, Charles issued a special message for Ramadan but ignored Easter.

The hierarch said he was convinced that modern Britain is deliberately casting aside the “Christian anchor” that for centuries shaped the country’s laws and freedoms. At the same time, Dewar regards attempts to adapt church life to the demands of the age as destructive. “We are told this is progress. But it is not progress. It is decline! A nation does not become stronger by forgetting what made it strong,” he said.

The bishop called on Britons to stop placing their hopes in politicians and officials and to begin acting on their own. He urged believers to restore faith to their homes, demand the “full Gospel” in their churches, and not be afraid to bear witness to the truth in public life.

"If you have sensed that we are losing something deeper than politics, you are not imagining it,” Dewar added, emphasizing that responsibility for the country’s future now lies with ordinary people.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the King of Great Britain had declined to deliver an Easter address.
