Pope Leo XIV stated that he is not afraid of US President Donald Trump's administration and intends to continue openly speaking out against wars and violence in the world. The pontiff made this statement on his way to Algeria, where he was traveling for a visit.
According to him, today too many people suffer and die as a result of armed conflicts, therefore the Church considers it its duty to testify to the necessity of peace.
"I have no fear of the Trump administration or speaking out loudly of the message of the Gospel, which is what I believe I am here to do, what the Church is here to do," Pope Leo responded to a journalist from the U.S. on a flight.
“We are not politicians,” he argued. “We don’t deal with foreign policy with the same perspective he might understand it, but I do believe in the message of the Gospel, as a peacemaker,” the Pope noted, adding that he addresses this call to all world leaders.
The pontiff asserts that his position is not political: it stems from a Christian understanding of peacemaking," he said.
As the UOJ wrote, earlier Donald Trump subjected Pope Leo XIV to harsh criticism, calling him weak and stating that his election was conditioned by the political situation in the USA.
