On April 23, 2026, an immigrant attacked a woman in Barcelona after she said she was a Christian, The European Conservative reports.

The incident occurred at night in the city center, near the La Rambla area. According to the source, a 19-year-old man of North African origin approached the woman and asked about her religion. After she answered that she was Christian, he began insulting and assaulting her.

Emergency services arrived at the scene, and the victim received medical assistance. The suspect was detained by police shortly after the attack and brought before judicial authorities on charges that include violation of fundamental rights on religious grounds and bodily harm.

The Barcelona case comes amid broader concerns about persecution of Christians in Europe. According to specialist organizations, the incidence of vandalism and physical violence has been rapidly growing.

In 2024, more than 2,000 incidents related to discrimination and persecution of Christians were recorded in European countries. These included hundreds of attacks, as well as a rise in arson incidents targeting churches and Christian institutions.

The highest numbers of such incidents have been reported in France, the United Kingdom, and Germany. Experts link the situation to broader social and migration-related processes taking place in Europe.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Islamists in Nigeria killed 12 Christians during Easter services.
