Doctors twice offer euthanasia to Catholic priest in Canada

In Canada, a Catholic priest from Vancouver stated that while receiving treatment in a hospital, he was twice offered euthanasia, despite doctors knowing about his religious beliefs and negative attitude toward such practice. He shared this in an interview with The BC Catholic publication.

The incident occurred during recovery from a hip fracture and, according to the priest, became a severe spiritual trial for him.

79-year-old Father Larry Holland admitted he was shocked by such proposals. "There are some things you just don’t talk about to some people," he noted. The priest emphasized that he was not dying, yet the doctor still raised the topic of euthanasia, stating he was obligated to discuss such matters with patients. “I think I was very shocked,” he said. “It is such a sensitive subject.”

A few weeks later, a similar proposal came from a nurse. According to the priest, she was probably motivated by compassion, seeing his pain, but he called such an attitude false: "This is false compassion."

Catholic chaplain Father Larry Lynn stated that "this is undoubtedly one of the most horrifying examples of the coercive and insensitive euthanasia regime in Canada."

As the UOJ reported, in Canada the number of euthanasia victims reached 100 thousand people.
