In late April 2026, a mass reception of local residents into the Orthodox Church took place in Cameroon’s Central Region, the ROC African Exarchate reports.
The solemn event took place on April 25 at the new parish of the Russian Orthodox Church dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, opened in the village of Ntui. On that day, 37 Cameroonians became members of the Church.
The sacraments were performed by the deans of Cameroon’s Central and Western Church Districts, Priest Paul Atangana and Priest Herman Mbarga. Among the newly received, 25 people received Holy Baptism, while another 12 local residents joined the community through the Sacrament of Chrismation.
Immediately after the rite of reception, the clergy celebrated the Divine Liturgy, at which the new members of the Church received the Holy Mysteries of Christ for the first time. All the new parishioners were presented with icons and prayer books.
Catechetical talks are currently continuing at St. Nicholas Parish for other villagers who have also expressed a desire to embrace the Orthodox faith.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that eight local residents in Vietnam embraced Orthodoxy in the ROC.
