His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry said in an interview that church disputes on social media are an inappropriate form of discussing church life, reports the UOC Information and Educational Department.
The Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church provided a direct formula: "Taking church disputes to social media is unacceptable for both believers and clergy." He further added: "Such polemics only tempts people, including those who are not involved in church life."
According to him, church disagreements should be resolved not through public correspondence but through "theological commissions and the conciliar mind of the Church," which make decisions on church matters.
"No less important is the danger of introducing political context into educational conversations and sermons, where inner peace can easily be destroyed," said His Beatitude Onuphry. He also noted that the task of a Christian remains "to preserve peace in the soul and avoid everything that disturbs it."
The Primate's interview marked the end of the Paschal celebrations and was devoted to current challenges facing the Church. Earlier, the UOJ wrote that His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry called on believers to intensify prayer for peace in Ukraine and emphasized the importance of personal salvation during periods of severe trials.
