The Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) published an official appeal on June 2, 2026, in response to another wave of massive attacks on Ukrainian cities. Religious leaders called on governments around the world to provide Ukraine with decisive military assistance. Representatives of various faith communities stressed that only active support can stop aggression and prevent the spread of war globally.
The overnight attack on Kyiv, Dnipro, and other regions left 18 people dead and more than one hundred civilians injured. Explosions damaged residential buildings, hospitals, and educational institutions in several cities across the country. In recent days, damage has also been reported to a mosque in Dnipro and evangelical churches in Kyiv and the Kharkiv region.
Among the affected sites, the UCCRO statement also mentioned the church complex of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church dedicated to Venerable Sergius of Radonezh in Kyiv’s Solomianskyi District. In total, nearly 800 religious sites have been damaged or completely destroyed since the beginning of the full-scale conflict.
The Council of Churches also urged the international community to strengthen sanctions against political and religious figures who support military aggression. The authors of the statement noted that the latest attacks coincided with the celebration of Pentecost and expressed gratitude to air-defense personnel and medical workers for saving lives.
As previously reported by the UOJ, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked UCCRO members for their “work toward victory.”
