In the Alexandrian Diocese, "Nikiforov Readings" on the History of the Region Were Held

On June 4, 2026, in Alexandria, a forum was held at the spiritual and educational center named after Saints Boris and Gleb, where unique research on Orthodox local history from the 18th to 21st centuries was presented. This was reported by the UOC Information Center.

Clergy and historians focused their attention on the anniversary dates of church consecrations in the former Alexandria district, which today are part of the eparchy.

Participants of the readings studied in detail the history of three significant shrines celebrating round anniversaries this year. On February 25, 220 years passed since the founding of the Transfiguration Church in the village of Talovaya Balka, and in autumn believers will celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Church of Joseph the Betrothed in Berezovka and the 130th anniversary of the Protection Church in Alexandria itself.

In addition to the eparchy's anniversary dates, speakers revealed little-known facts about the lives of local saints who served on these lands during different historical periods. Those gathered emphasized that preserving church heritage is the foundation for developing regional research and strengthening faith in modern society.

As SPJ reported, in Poltava, the foundation of a church destroyed by the Bolsheviks was accidentally discovered.
