On June 15, 2026, the press service of the Romanian Orthodox Church published an official statement regarding the strike on the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

In Bucharest, the Patriarchate stressed that any attempt to desecrate or destroy churches of such scale is a tragedy for all Christian civilization and for humanity’s shared heritage.

Representatives of the Patriarchate called for prayers for an end to violence and the restoration of peace. The Church also spoke of the need to preserve human life and protect spiritual treasures that have found themselves in a zone of armed conflict.

The UOJ also reported that authorities showed the condition of the Dormition Cathedral after the shelling.
