President Volodymyr Zelensky, speaking to journalists in Brussels, linked the recent attack on Moscow to the shelling of Kyiv that damaged the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The head of state recalled that during an earlier meeting with reporters on the grounds of the monastery, he had openly warned that a “strong and just” response was being prepared. This was reported by Ukrinform.
“They struck the Lavra, and during our meeting with journalists at the Lavra I said quite openly: we will prepare a response, and you will see it. I think you are seeing it,” the president said. In his view, such actions should demonstrate to Russian society that ordinary people pay the price for the decisions made by the country’s leadership.
Zelensky stressed that Ukrainian forces are capable of reaching targets in the Russian capital despite the presence of three rings of air defense. “If Ukraine burns, your Moscow will burn too,” he said, adding that Kyiv has no intention of “sitting quietly” while the aggression continues.
In addition to military measures, Ukraine continues to call for stronger international pressure through energy and banking sanctions, as well as efforts to curb Russia’s “shadow fleet.” Following the G7 summit, Zelensky noted that Ukraine’s partners recognize Kyiv’s desire to end the war, while the Kremlin continues to avoid giving direct answers regarding a ceasefire.
As the UOJ reported, Zelensky showed Trump photographs of the burning Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Prchersk Lavra.
