Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili stated that the documents of the European Parliament and PACE have definitively crossed the "red lines" established by the Georgian people. According to him, the creation of such a "dangerous precedent" gives grounds to believe that European structures were deliberately laying the groundwork for such actions, reports Orthodoxia News Agency.

"The Church’s mention in the report in the context of Russian religious networks and influence operations represents the first open attack on the Church of Georgia by an official European institution and offends the religious feelings of millions of believers," Papuashvili emphasized.

The politician is convinced that the simultaneous blow to the authority of religious institutions and state independence is aimed at destroying the foundations of the nation. "A simultaneous attack on the sovereignty of the Georgian state and the Georgian Church is, in essence, an attack on the idea of Georgian statehood," declared the head of the legislative body.

In this regard, he demanded that the European Union cease its "hostile rhetoric" and end the disinformation campaign against the country's government. Papuashvili drew attention to the fact that Brussels' position on this matter effectively coincides with the occupation policy.

"While Russia denies Georgia’s sovereignty over one-fifth of the country’s territory, the European Parliament refuses to recognize Georgia’s sovereignty over its entire territory," the Speaker concluded.

As the UOJ reported, the European Union congratulated Patriarch Shio III on his election to the Throne.
