Viktor Yelensky, head of Ukraine’s State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience (DESS), has said that Ukrainian service members are fighting the enemy in defense of religious freedom. This was reported by the DESS press service.
“It is especially important today, when our men and women are fighting on the front lines – not least for religious freedom. Our enemies are the very embodiment of hostility to freedom of conscience. They include the Russian Federation, the natural enemy of everything that is free; China, where the Communist Party dictates every aspect of life; and North Korea, which sends people to concentration camps. The fact that Ukraine stands on the side of absolute freedom and good in this global struggle is an important dimension of our fight,” Yelenskyi said.
Yelensky did not specify how he assesses the current state of religious freedom within Ukraine.
As the UOJ previously reported, the United Nations accused Ukraine of persecuting UOC clergy, communities, and journalists.
