An OCU cleric from the Kherson region, Valentyn Horokhovskyi, speaking at an event marking the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of Ukraine at the walls of the Dormition Cathedral, drew a parallel between the actions of the head of state and the Old Testament story of the battle of the Israelites.

"Mr. President, just as Aaron and Hur held up the hands of Moses, enabling ancient Israel to prevail, so we stand shoulder to shoulder with our defenders and uphold your hands, so that Ukraine may triumph over the modern-day Amalekite barbarians," said Horokhovskyi.

In his speech, the cleric, who was awarded the presidential Order of Merit, 3rd class, referred to membership in the canonical Church as "an age-old spiritual yoke cast upon us by Moscow." He emphasized that his community in the settlement of Antonivka "consciously chose to be part of the family of the unified local Orthodox Church of Ukraine."

Horokhovskyi also called on state authorities to continue actively assisting communities in transitioning to the OCU. In his view, the state, within the framework of the law, "can and must" protect such decisions from "pressure by pro-Russian forces."

As the UOJ reported, Zelensky marked Constitution Day at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
