Firefighters save 18th-century church in Ternopil region

In the village of Rokhmaniv, Ternopil region, rescuers extinguished a fire in the wooden Holy Trinity Church of the 18th century in four minutes, preventing the complete destruction of the architectural monument, reports the head of the Shumsk territorial community, Vadym Boyarsky, on Facebook.
The fire at the ancient church of the Shumsk community occurred on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Thanks to the rapid response of the personnel of the 16th State Fire and Rescue Unit, the fire was localized in the shortest possible time.
Only four minutes elapsed between the fire being reported and the arrival of the firefighting crew, allowing firefighters to prevent the flames from spreading throughout the entire building.
Vadym Boyarsky thanked the firefighters for their professionalism and dedication, emphasizing that the shrine had been saved. Experts are now working to determine the cause of the fire in the historic building.
As the UOJ reported, the Dormition Church of the Dnipropetrovsk Eparchy of the UOC in Mezhova burned down due to shelling.
