Kyiv’s Pechersk District Court has imposed a preventive measure in the form of nighttime house arrest on former acting Culture Minister Rostyslav Karandeyev, who had threatened the forcible eviction of the brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This was reported by pravda.com.

The official is suspected of organizing illegal schemes to smuggle people across the state border. The question of a possible appeal against the first-instance court’s decision will be considered after the full ruling has been reviewed.

As the UOJ reported, in 2024 Karandeyev spoke about evicting the brethren of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. While in office, he publicly mentioned the possibility of forcibly expelling the monks from the monastery.
