In Dublin, police have detained a 40-year-old man on suspicion of setting fire to the Al-Madina Islamic mosque on Talbot Street. The incident caused material damage to the building, but no one was injured. This was reported by the BBC.

The attack took place on June 29, 2026, at around 3:35 p.m. local time. The fire inside the premises was extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade, which deployed four fire engines and a turntable ladder. More than 20 firefighters and paramedics took part in the operation under the command of a district officer.

Irish police are continuing to investigate all circumstances of the incident. Law enforcement officials are not linking the arson to racist or far-right groups. The detainee is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice on Wednesday.

Police are asking possible witnesses to provide investigators with video footage or any information about the incident.

As the UOJ reported, a man was detained in Scotland over anti-Muslim actions.
