Culture Ministry: Greece ready to provide funds for Lavra restoration

On July 1, Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Tetiana Berezhna and Greek Ambassador to Ukraine Pantelis Alexandros Dimitrakopoulos discussed support for the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, according to the website of Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture.
Berezhna thanked the Greek side for its support of Ukraine and its participation in the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Fund during the Ukraine Recovery Conference URC2026. For his part, the Greek ambassador confirmed his country’s readiness to continue assisting Ukraine both through bilateral cooperation projects and through contributions to the fund.
The meeting paid particular attention to the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra following the Russian attack on June 15. Berezhna said that emergency measures to protect the damaged monument had already been completed, with conservation work to follow as the next stage.
After that, according to the ministry, scientific and project documentation will be prepared for the subsequent restoration. First Deputy Minister of Culture Ivan Verbytsky noted that Ukrainian and international experts had already been involved in assessing the monument’s condition.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture also said that UNESCO is providing advisory support, with its specialists having carried out an initial 3D scan of the site. The Greek ambassador confirmed Athens’ readiness to consider financial participation in the restoration of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and proposed maintaining constant coordination with the Ukrainian side.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Ukraine’s Minister of Culture described the restoration of Ukrainian cultural heritage as a shared task for the state, business, and society.
