On July 4, 2026, UOC faithful in the Chernivtsi region began a cross procession to the monastery in honor of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in the village of Khreshchatyk, participants in the procession reported.
According to the published route, the pilgrims set out from the Church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos in Chernivtsi, at 37-E Kashtanova Street. The cross procession then passes through Zadubrivka, Shubranets, Vaslovivtsi, Maly Kuchuriv, Zastavna, Chunkiv, Kadubivtsi, Kulevtsi and Zveniachyn.
The final destination is the monastery in honor of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in the village of Khreshchatyk. The total distance is about 38.7 kilometers, with an estimated walking time of around 13 hours.
According to eyewitnesses, more than a thousand faithful were already taking part at the start of the cross procession. Participants expect the number of pilgrims to grow to several thousand closer to the end of the route.
In the village of Vaslovivtsi, the cross-bearers were greeted by a persecuted UOC religious community, which offered support to the participants. It is also reported that police fined a driver who had brought people to the starting point of the procession.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that a cross procession with an ark containing the relics of the Oleksandrian saints was held in Znamyanka.
