OCU activists initiate meeting against UOC in Boromyky

On July 12, in the village of Boromyky, Chernihiv region, OCU activists initiated a so-called “gathering of the religious community” directed against the local community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and its rector, Fr. Serhii Illiushko. This was reported on the Facebook page “Polityka i Kompromat.”
In the post announcing the upcoming meeting, OCU supporters use openly insulting language toward UOC clergy. Fr. Serhii Illiushko is effectively attacked for remaining faithful to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, while the community’s position is being presented as grounds for public pressure.
The authors of the post also attack other representatives of the UOC clergy and their relatives. In particular, they mention the family of Fr. Mykolai Starchuk from Brusyliv, citing unverified domestic accusations and presenting them in a derogatory manner. Such rhetoric appears not as an attempt to understand the situation, but as a targeted effort to discredit UOC clergy.
In addition, the text recalls the political past of Maria Starchuk, who, according to the authors, previously ran for the district council from the Nash Krai party. This information is used as another pretext to pressure UOC supporters, although it has no bearing on the faithful’s right to preserve their church affiliation.
Thus, the announced “gathering of the religious community” in Boromyky is accompanied not by a peaceful discussion of church life, but by an aggressive campaign against UOC parishioners and clergy. Instead of respecting the choice of believers, OCU activists resort to insults, labels, and public harassment of those who remain in the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
As the UOJ previously reported, a sham meeting was held in Ploske to “transfer” the Intercession Church to the OCU.
