Several thousand faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church took part in the traditional cross procession to the Pokrov Men’s Monastery in the village of Marynivka, Odesa region. This was reported by the Odesa Eparchy on Facebook.

The prayerful procession from the village of Kovalevka to the monastery walls preceded the festive Divine Liturgy on the feast day of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God. At the end of the procession, the wonderworking Kasperov Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos was brought to the monastery.

The solemn service on July 9, 2026, was led by Metropolitan Agafangel of Odesa and Izmail, concelebrated by hierarchs from the Sumy, Vinnytsia, and Khmelnytskyi eparchies, as well as Archbishop Sylvester, rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary.

During the Liturgy, clergy and laity offered prayers for the repose of all those killed as a result of the war in Ukraine and for the civilians of Odesa whose lives were tragically cut short on July 8. The faithful also prayed for the repose of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) on the 60th anniversary of his episcopal consecration.

In his archpastoral address, Metropolitan Agafangel called on the flock to steadfastly preserve the Orthodox faith, the unity of the Church, and to intensify prayer for peace.

As the UOJ reported, more than 5,000 UOC faithful took part in the cross procession to Khreshchatyk.
