DESS has outlined security and logistics measures for receiving tens of thousands of Hasidic pilgrims in Uman. The main objective of the meeting on July 14 was to coordinate the work of all services for the celebration of Rosh Hashanah from September 11 to 13 under martial law.
The meeting participants analyzed the experience of previous years in order to organize the operation of checkpoints, fire safety, and medical support. For the movement of pilgrims, the authorities planned to use 21 border crossing points, although the final routes remain uncertain due to the security situation and possible changes in air travel with Israel.
To maintain public order, Ukraine will engage 16 foreign mediators who will assist local law enforcement directly in the pilgrimage area.
Special attention was paid to the readiness of shelters in Uman and the mechanism for collecting a tourist fee, with detailed explanations promised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to be published on its website in the near future.
According to DESS head Viktor Yelensky, coordinated interaction is the key to ensuring that the pilgrimage proceeds safely despite the challenges of wartime. An operational headquarters has already begun working directly in Uman to coordinate all services on the ground.
As the UOJ reported, DESS reported to the European Commission on combating antisemitism.
