Religious Jews attack Armenian monastery in Jerusalem

In Jerusalem, a group of radical Jews attacked the Armenian Monastery of Saint James. The attackers desecrated the entrance to the monastery and pelted its walls with stones. This was reported by Times of Israel.

The incident occurred at around one o'clock in the morning on Sunday, August 2, 2026, in the Armenian Quarter of the Old City. Six perpetrators, among whom five were minors and one was an adult, took turns spitting on and throwing stones at the gates of the monastery complex, which serves as the headquarters of the Armenian Church in the region.

When a local resident attempted to record what was happening on video, the radicals began throwing stones at her windows and shouting insults.

Jerusalem police officers located and detained all participants in the attack. Three suspects were banned from entering the Old City for 15 days, while law enforcement filed a petition with the court to extend the detention period for the remaining suspects. Representatives of the Armenian Patriarchate have already submitted an official complaint to the police regarding the act of vandalism and threats.

As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported, Israeli settlers set fire to the homes of Christians in the ancient city of Taybeh.
