Several thousand pilgrims are taking part in a procession of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church from Volyn Region to the Holy Dormition Pochaiv Lavra, according to the state-run outlet Suspilne.
Journalists reported that at around 4:00 p.m. on August 3, the participants in the prayer procession crossed the administrative border between the Rivne and Ternopil regions. Correspondents estimated that more than 2,000 people were walking in the column. The pilgrims were accompanied by law enforcement officers.
Earlier, the participants had stopped for a two-hour rest in the village of Pidzamche in the Rivne Region. According to Suspilne, they had around nine kilometers left to walk before reaching the Pochaiv Lavra.
The procession is being held ahead of the feast of the Pochaiv Icon of the Mother of God, celebrated annually on August 5. Solemn services are held at the Pochaiv Lavra on that day, traditionally drawing thousands of Orthodox believers from across Ukraine.
As previously reported, UOC faithful began the procession from Kovel to the Pochaiv Lavra.
