Serbian Patriarch Refutes Rumors About the Creation of a Diocese in Montenegro
Serbian Patriarch Porfirije has refuted information published by certain media outlets regarding the establishment of a new diocese on the territory of Montenegro. This is stated in a statement to the Information Service of the Serbian Orthodox Church, published on the official website of the SOC.
The statement is dated August 14, 2026. Patriarch Porfirije called the talk about the founding of the Boka Kotorska Diocese in Montenegro a provocation, which would be laughable if it were not part of a well-orchestrated malicious campaign. According to him, the goal of this campaign is to create confusion, discord, and to sow distrust among Orthodox believers.
The Primate of the Serbian Church emphasized that no such strategy had ever been discussed or developed within the church structures. He stated directly that the topic of creating the Boka Kotorska Diocese in Montenegro does not exist at all on the agenda of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
As the SPJ previously reported, the Serbian Church condemned the verdict against Patriarch Porfirije in Slovenia.
