On August 16, 2026, the feast day of the miraculous Borzna Icon of the Mother of God – a locally venerated shrine of the Nizhyn Eparchy – was celebrated at St Nicholas Cathedral in Borzna, Chernihiv region, the UOC’s Chernihiv Eparchy reports.

On the feast day, hierarchs, clergy, and numerous faithful from across the eparchy gathered before the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. The Divine Liturgy was led by Metropolitan Klyment (Vecheria) of Nizhyn and Pryluky, who was also celebrating his birthday that day. He was joined by UOC hierarchs and clergy. Abbesses of women’s monasteries of the Nizhyn Eparchy also prayed at the service.

During the Liturgy, the clergy offered petitions for peace in Ukraine and deliverance from the enemy, asking the Lord to preserve those who are in despair and have lost their homes, and to bless people of goodwill who help those in need. At the conclusion of the service, a rite of glorification was celebrated before the venerated icon, with a prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos.

The Borzna Icon of the Mother of God is one of the venerated shrines of the Chernihiv land. For centuries, the icon was kept in the Church of the Nativity of Christ in Borzna and became renowned for numerous cases of healing. In the 20th century, the shrine was believed to have been lost, but in 2018 it was miraculously rediscovered and returned to the Nizhyn Eparchy.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that the patronal feast of Hustynia Monastery was celebrated in the Nizhyn Eparchy.
