Believers taking part in a prayer vigil near the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra offered prayers for His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry on the 12th anniversary of the enthronement of the UOC Primate, the Fortetsia Lavra Telegram channel reports.
The channel’s authors noted that the area near the monastery was unusually crowded that day, “as has rarely been the case in recent years,” with both familiar worshippers and pilgrims among those who came. According to them, the faithful may have been drawn both by the anniversary of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry’s enthronement and by the days of the Dormition Fast, which traditionally lead believers to the Mother of God – and to the Dormition Lavra.
At first, people prayed near the barrier and police cordon.
After the prayer service, traditionally held near the Church of St Sergius of Radonezh, the clergy and faithful offered prayers for their Primate and sang “Many Years” to him.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church marked the 12th anniversary of its Primate’s enthronement.
