The Archangel Michael Monastery of the Khust Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church caught fire in the village of Hrushovo, Tiachiv district, Zakarpattia region. This was reported by the Main Directorate of the State Emergency Service in Zakarpattia region.
According to the report, rescuers were notified of the fire on Monastyrska Street in the village of Hrushovo on August 18 at 17:31. According to the State Emergency Service, the monastery's servants noticed a strange smell long before they saw any smoke and immediately called the fire brigade. Personnel from the local fire brigade in the village of Teresva, specialists from the Civil Safety Center of the Solotvyno territorial community, and firefighters from Tiachiv worked at the scene. By the time they arrived, the flames had already engulfed most of the building and spread to its roof.
As the building was lined with plastic, the fire spread particularly quickly. It took firefighters an hour to completely extinguish the blaze, which covered an area of 100 square meters. The fire destroyed the skete’s roof and church furnishings and damaged the ceilings, liturgical books, and church utensils.
As the UOJ previously reported, firefighters in Ternopil region saved an 18th-century church.
