A man is on trial in Lviv for arson at a mosque

The prosecutor's office has submitted an indictment to court against a nineteen-year-old resident of Lviv. The man is charged with intentional damage to an Islamic religious and cultural center, committed on the grounds of religious hatred. This was reported by the Lviv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

The investigation established that in April of this year, in the evening, the accused, with his face concealed, came to the building of the religious institution. He brought with him a bag containing two pre-prepared glass bottles filled with flammable liquid. Using a lighter, the perpetrator ignited the bottles one by one and threw them in the direction of a stand with a microphone.

The arson caused a fire that damaged the property of the religious community and the premises of the shopping center where the Islamic center was located. The total amount of damage caused exceeded 315,000 hryvnias. Of this amount, more than 215,000 hryvnias in damage was inflicted directly on the religious community, and over 100,000 hryvnias on the shopping center.

The accused acted intentionally, fully aware that religious events were being held on the premises. He is charged with intentional destruction of another person's property by arson, as well as damage to a religious building. The pre-trial investigation was conducted by police officers and the Security Service of Ukraine in the Lviv region.

As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported, a video was shared online showing how Islam is being promoted on the streets of Dnipro.
