His Beatitude presented 200 children of displaced persons with backpacks for the school year
On August 30, 2026, His Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Onuphrius presented school backpacks to more than 200 children from families of internally displaced persons. The charitable event took place after the Divine Liturgy and a prayer service before the beginning of the school year at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, as reported by the Information and Educational Department of the UOC.
During the prayer service in the church of the Venerable Agapitus of the Caves, the clergy and faithful prayed for God's blessing upon students and teachers, as well as for help for the children in their upcoming studies. After the prayer, the Primate sprinkled those present with holy water.
This was followed by the annual charitable event «Backpack of Mercy,» which is held on the eve of the school year by the Synodal Department of the UOC for Social and Humanitarian Affairs with the support of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphrius.
This year, more than 200 children from families of internally displaced persons received backpacks with necessary school supplies. The Synodal Department expressed gratitude to the Primate of the UOC and all benefactors who helped make the event possible.
The UOJ previously reported that the Primate of the UOC performed the Rite of the Burial of the Shroud of the Mother of God.
