In Cherkasy Region, acting head of the National Police Maksym Tsutskyridze held an interagency meeting, noting that the security of Hasidic pilgrims traveling to Uman is under the oversight of the president of Ukraine.

Law enforcement agencies discussed a joint action plan for the period of the Hasidim’s stay in Ukraine. Representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Guard, the Border Guard Service and emergency services took part in the meeting. Maksym Tsutskyridze stressed the importance of protecting pilgrims amid the threat of missile attacks.

“Starting September 6, pilgrims will begin arriving in Uman en masse to celebrate Rosh Hashanah,” the police chief said. “Our task, amid the threat of drone and missile attacks, is to ensure the safety of both the pilgrims from the moment they cross the border until they leave Ukraine, and local residents. This issue is being overseen by the president and the interior minister.”

The meeting participants paid particular attention to the number of personnel and resources that the agencies will deploy to maintain public order. Law enforcement agencies planned extensive preventive measures to avert terrorist attacks, sabotage and provocations. Emergency services will provide fire and technological safety at places where large crowds gather, setting up special monitoring posts and assistance points.
