On August 31, 2026, on the ninth day after the death of Monk Varsonofiy (Turyansky), the brotherhood of Svyatohorsk Lavra served a panikhida for him in the Dormition Cathedral. This was reported by the Telegram channel of Svyatohorsk Lavra.
The memorial service was held after Midnight Office. The monastery reminded that, according to Church tradition, a special commemoration of the departed is performed on the ninth day after repose. The entire brotherhood of Svyatohorsk Lavra participated together in prayer for the repose of Monk Varsonofiy.
Monk Varsonofiy was killed on August 23 during an armed attack on the residents of the monastery. Two more people sustained serious injuries. According to eyewitnesses, before his death he confessed his faith with the words: "Glory to the Lord Jesus Christ that I am a monk!"
The Lavra emphasized that these words became the last confession of Monk Varsonofiy and a testimony to his faithfulness to Christ and to his monastic vocation. The brotherhood called on the faithful to pray for the repose of the deceased and expressed hope that the Lord would receive his soul into His eternal dwellings.
The UOJ previously reported that prayers were offered in Toronto for the repose of the monk killed at Svyatohorsk Lavra.
