French Freemasons demand an end to funding for Catholic schools

The Grand Master of the Masonic lodge "Grand Orient of France," Guillaume Trichard, has demanded that state support for the country's private Catholic schools be discontinued. This is reported by Opoka.

The leader of the French Freemasons declared war on religious educational institutions during a lodge assembly in Bordeaux. In his view, there is no place in the republic for private schools without a contract with the state. The majority of such institutions are Catholic schools. The Freemasons are also demanding cuts to funding for primary schools and lycées that hold state contracts.

To implement these plans, the organization is preparing a special report on school education. Trichard is engaging approximately one thousand four hundred lodges across the country in the campaign. The Freemasons will hold public conferences in order to pressure educational institutions and promote republican values.

French Catholic education currently unites around two million pupils. A reduction in funding will deal a blow to the stability of the schools and force believing families to spend enormous sums on their children's education.

As the SPJ reported, a Catholic bishop in France performed a funeral service for a Freemason.
