The Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra is raising funds for the treatment of Monk Gregory and monastery worker Andriy Kyriienko, who were seriously wounded in the attack on the monastery.

A group of assailants carried out a brutal armed attack on the monks on August 23, 2026. The attackers killed Monk Varsonofiy, while two other novices suffered life-threatening injuries.

Monk Gregory sustained more than 10 stab wounds to his back, arm and collarbone, suffered a lung injury, and was thrown down a steep slope. Monastery worker Andriy Kyriienko was brutally beaten by the attackers, who broke his arm, stabbed him twice in the back, and also threw him down the slope.

Medical workers in Sloviansk provided the victims with emergency care, after which the wounded men were transferred to a hospital in Kharkiv. Both underwent complex surgeries, but they now face a long period of recovery. Medicines, regular examinations and ongoing care require substantial financial resources. The monastery is calling on all believers to show Christian mercy and support the wounded brothers.

Donation details are available on the monastery’s website.

As previously reported by the UOJ, the killing of the Sviatohirsk Lavra monk was condemned in Georgia.
