UOC church in Tysovets marks 135th anniversary of consecration

The community of the Church of the Great Martyr Demetrius of Thessaloniki in the village of Tysovets, Chernivtsi Eparchy, celebrated the 135th anniversary of the church’s consecration. On the day of the Church New Year and the commemoration of St. Simeon the Stylite, Metropolitan Meletiy of Chernivtsi and Bukovyna led the festal service in the Storozhynets Deanery, according to the Facebook page of the faithful of the UOC’s Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy.
Concelebrating the Liturgy with the ruling hierarch were Bishop Nikita of Ivano-Frankivsk and Kolomyia, Eparchy Secretary Archpriest Dymytrii Shcherban, district dean Archpriest Vasyl Kovalchuk, and local clergy.
The hierarchs and clergy offered special prayers for peace in Ukraine, protection from the enemy, the well-being of those who have lost their homes, and blessings upon benefactors. The participants also held a memorial service for the departed rectors of St. Demetrius Church.
Following the service, the clergy and faithful held a cross procession around the church, with readings from the Gospel and the sprinkling of holy water. Metropolitan Meletiy delivered a sermon and congratulated the rector, Archpriest Sviatoslav Knyhnytskyi, on the 135th anniversary of the church’s consecration and the 45th anniversary of his priestly ordination, presenting him with an episcopal certificate.
In response, the rector thanked the hierarchs, clergy and faithful for their joint prayer.
As the UOJ reported, the 100th anniversary of the repose of Venerable Martyr Rafaila was prayerfully commemorated in Chyhyryn.
