Ukrainian Embassy “strongly condemns” attack on Catholic monastery in Poland

The Ukrainian Embassy in Poland issued an official statement strongly condemning the attack by a Ukrainian citizen on a Benedictine convent and the killing of a Catholic priest in the city of Jarosław.

“We strongly condemn the brutal attack that took place on September 24 at the Benedictine Sisters’ convent in Jarosław. We consider all forms of violence unacceptable. It is especially painful that such a tragedy occurred in a place that should be a sanctuary of prayer and mercy,” the embassy stated.

The diplomats expressed condolences to the family of the deceased priest and wished the injured a speedy recovery. “There can be no justification for violence or attacks against people,” they emphasized.

Embassy representatives also thanked Polish law enforcement officers and medical personnel for their swift assistance to the victims.

“We are confident that the competent authorities will thoroughly and objectively establish all the circumstances of the tragedy and that those responsible will be held accountable under the law,” the embassy concluded.

As a reminder, on August 23, 2026, Monk Varsonofiy (Turianskyi) was killed in a brutal attack at the Sviatohirsk Lavra, suffering a gunshot wound that passed through his head and neck. Monk Gregory sustained four stab wounds, while the attackers threw novice Andrii Kirienko into a ravine, leaving him with a punctured lung. A month after the tragedy, representatives of the Ukrainian authorities have yet to respond to the incident.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that Zelensky condemned the killing of a Catholic priest in Poland.
