Ukraine’s State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) has declared the Zaporizhzhia Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church affiliated with a foreign religious organization whose activities are banned in Ukraine, according to the agency’s official website.
The corresponding order, signed by DESS head Viktor Yelensky, was published on the agency’s website. The decision was prompted by the eparchy’s failure to comply with an earlier DESS directive, which required, among other things, a resolution by the Eparchial Assembly severing ties with the UOC’s Kyiv Metropolia.
The Zaporizhzhia Eparchial Administration has become the fourth UOC religious organization officially designated by DESS as affiliated with the Russian Orthodox Church.
As the UOJ previously reported, DESS also declared the Holosiiv Monastery affiliated with the ROC.
