During a hearing in the Upper Lavra case at the Northern Commercial Court of Appeal, radical activist Davyd Pshenychnyi attacked a lawyer representing the monastery’s monks, shoving him and threatening him with physical violence. The incident was reported by UOC lawyer Archpriest Nikita Chekman.
According to Fr. Nikita, the attack occurred immediately after the court announced a recess. The break had been requested by a lawyer who had only recently joined the proceedings and needed time to file a motion to recuse the panel of judges after they denied his request to review the case materials.
An ambulance was called for the lawyer because of the injuries he sustained. Police also arrived at the scene. The legal team intends to file formal complaints and provide official statements regarding the physical assault and threats. Archpriest Nikita Chekman concluded by asking the faithful for their prayers and support.
Davyd Pshenychnyi, a radical activist known for firing a gun during the seizure of the cathedral in Cherkasy, has repeatedly staged provocations against UOC lawyers. The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv previously ordered law enforcement authorities to enter information about his actions into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations. Nevertheless, he has continued his unlawful activities.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that an activist who had been harassing UOC lawyers was seen wearing clothing bearing Nazi symbols.
