The Observatory on Intolerance and Discrimination Against Christians in Europe (OIDAC Europe) included an attack by a Ukrainian national on a Catholic monastery and the murder of a Roman Catholic priest in its September report on anti-Christian violence.

The tragedy occurred at a Benedictine monastery in the Polish city of Jarosław. One priest was killed and four other clergymen were injured in a knife attack. The suspect was identified as a Ukrainian national. Following the tragedy, one of the surviving priests urged people to exercise restraint and not blame all Ukrainians for the actions of a single attacker.

Why does Zelensky react so emotionally and swiftly to the murder of a Catholic cleric while remaining completely silent about the murder of an Orthodox monk?

In September 2026, OIDAC documented a total of 30 incidents targeting Christians, Christian symbols, and places of worship across Europe. The report recorded 12 cases of vandalism, four incidents of desecration of sacred sites, three arson attacks, three incidents of physical violence, a foiled terrorist attack in Germany, a knife threat in France, and the disruption of a worship service in the United Kingdom.

Most of these offenses occurred in Italy, Germany, France, and Poland. OIDAC analysts stressed that the severity of attacks and the actual threat to the lives of Christians in European countries have increased significantly.

As the UOJ previously reported, OIDAC also included the murder of a monk at the Sviatohirsk Lavra in one of its reports.
