Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland, Primate of the Polish Orthodox Church, met with leaders of International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) to discuss the severe humanitarian and social challenges facing Central and Eastern Europe as a result of the war in Ukraine, UOJ in the Czech Republic and Slovakia reports.
The discussions focused on the social crisis caused by the fighting in Ukraine and the resulting migration. Participants expressed concern over the erosion of traditional values, deepening divisions within society, and growing tensions in communities that had previously lived in peace and mutual respect. They also emphasized Orthodoxy's special role in preserving Christian foundations through bearing witness to the faith, love for one's neighbor, and concrete acts of mercy.
Metropolitan Sawa thanked IOCC representatives for their humanitarian work and support for people in need, noting that a genuinely Christian outlook enables people to recognize those who need help.
Founded in the United States in 1992, IOCC serves as the official humanitarian agency of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America. It provides assistance to people affected by armed conflicts, poverty, and social crises, regardless of their religion or nationality.
As the UOJ previously reported, the Polish Orthodox Church called on the faithful to pray for peace in Ukraine.
