On October 20, 2026, festive services began in the Khust Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in honor of the 25th anniversary of St. Alexis of Carpatho-Russia's glorification, reports the eparchy's press service on Telegram.
The services are being held at St. Nicholas Monastery in the village of Iza-Karputlash.
The festal all-night vigil was led by Metropolitan Serhiy of Ternopil and Kremenets, concelebrated by Metropolitans Pavel of Vyshhorod and Chornobyl, Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluky, and Ioann of Kherson and Tavria. Among those in prayerful attendance were Archbishops Sylvester of Bilhorod, Simeon of Uholka (a vicar bishop of the Khust Eparchy), Lavr of Irpin, Mark of Borodianka, and Athanasius of Kamin-Kashyrskyi. They were concelebrated by Bishop Benjamin of Skadovsk and Bishop Mark of Rakhiv, a vicar bishop of the Khust Eparchy.
During the service, the clergy and faithful prayed for peace for Ukraine, God's mercy on the people, and strengthening in the faith. The eparchy noted that the services marked the beginning of solemn prayerful events that brought together archpastors, clergy, and laity.
The future saint served liturgies in Iza in a private house. In a short time, Hieromonk Alexis heard the confessions of and gave Communion to more than a thousand people, baptized about 300 children, and married about 30 couples. He was arrested several times, and after his release he left for America. In 1921, he returned to his homeland, and on August 17 he was elected abbot of St. Nicholas Monastery in Iza. Archimandrite Alexis (Kabaliuk) reposed on November 19, 1947, at the Dombok Convent.
The incorrupt relics of Schema-Archimandrite Alexis were discovered on March 12, 1999. On November 21, 2001, His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kyiv and All Ukraine (†2014) performed his glorification among the venerable saints at the monastery in Iza. The saint's relics rest in St. Nicholas Monastery, where he served as abbot.
As the UOJ reported, UOC hierarchs consecrated a new chapel at a monastery in Zakarpattia.
