The Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve has allocated 26.61 million hryvnias for priority emergency and conservation work at the Dormition Cathedral, damaged in a nighttime shelling of Kyiv, reports "KyivVlada".
The relevant contract with the construction contractor was signed on September 29, 2026. By December 25, 2026, the builders are required to dismantle the destroyed roof and metal structures, clear the premises of construction debris, and reinforce and restore the church’s roof.
According to the Reserve's Director General Maksym Ostapenko, full-scale restoration of the cathedral will take at least two years. He reported that the exterior and interior finishing of the cathedral was damaged, and that immediately after the strike, ancient icons and holy relics were evacuated from the building.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote that Ostapenko estimated the total damage to the Dormition Cathedral at 15 million euros.
