Sculptor Oles Sydoruk accused Vyshhorod Mayor Oleksii Momot of damaging the monument to the Holy Passion-Bearers Boris and Gleb.
According to the sculptors, the reconstruction commissioned by the city administration completely destroyed the monument’s architectural concept and original artistic vision.
The creators described the work as unauthorized interference with their artistic design and sent an open letter of protest to the mayor, demanding an explanation of the legal grounds, funding sources, and circumstances surrounding the reconstruction.
The sculptors also demanded that city authorities remove architectural elements that were not part of the original design and restore the monument to its original appearance. If their demands are rejected or ignored, the artists have vowed to contact law enforcement authorities to protect their legal rights.
The monument to the Holy Passion-Bearers Boris and Gleb was erected in Vyshhorod’s central square in 2011. All members of the creative team are honorary citizens of the city. Sculptor Oles Sydoruk is also a member of the Royal Society of Sculptors in the United Kingdom and has created more than 50 monuments in Ukraine and abroad.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers had backed Zelensky’s proposal to replace a monument to Lenin with one honoring Mazepa.
