On October 31, 2026, a side chapel of the Venerable Fathers of the Kyiv Caves was consecrated on the island of Corfu (Greece). The consecration rite and the Divine Liturgy were led by Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands, reports a UOJ correspondent.
Metropolitan Nektarios was concelebrated by bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church: Metropolitan Clement of Nizhyn and Pryluky, Metropolitan Filaret of Lviv and Halych, Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorodka, Archbishop Victor of Artsyz, Archbishop Benjamin of Khotyn, Bishop Job of Kitsman, and others.
The paraklesis church has been built at the monastic house.
"We responded with great joy to the request of the vicar of the Odesa Metropolia, Archbishop Victor of Artsyz, to build here, in this place, a monastic house where several monks will be able to live, and where all who stay in this house will find spiritual consolation," said Metropolitan Nektarios.
The hierarch said that he has known the Ukrainian Church for many years, since the time of His Beatitude Metropolitan Volodymyr, and then His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry, who visited Corfu. "Together with him we served and glorified God in the church of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker," the bishop recalled.
Recall that Metropolitan Nektarios previously stated that he supports the canonical UOC and His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry and that the UOC clergy and faithful are always welcomed on Corfu. In December 2025, at the invitation of Metropolitan Nektarios, Archbishop Victor of Artsyz celebrated an all-night Liturgy at the relics of Saint Spyridon on the day of his commemoration. And in August 2026, UOC pilgrims from Bukovyna took part in a procession with the relics of Saint Spyridon on Corfu.
