Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra, Paxoi and the Diapontian Islands said he grieves over the trials that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is facing. He made these remarks on October 31, 2026, following the consecration in Corfu of a chapel of the Venerable Fathers of the Kyiv Caves, attended by UOC bishops.

“Our heart aches especially – as the heart of an Orthodox people, and as my own heart, that of the humble Bishop of Corfu – because the sister Church of Ukraine is facing particular trials from internal enemies, I would say, from temptation, from the devil, unfortunately, in the form of schisms and disagreements among clergy and bishops, which divide the people,” the hierarch said.

A hierarch of the Church of Greece stated that the island of Corfu always welcomes clergy and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC).

Speaking about the war, the metropolitan noted that armed confrontation between Orthodox peoples is "not from God, but from temptation."

“We sincerely pray to the Lord God, as well as before the holy relics of Saint Spyridon the Wonderworker, that all wars on earth may subside and come to an end,” he said.

Earlier, the UOJ reported that hierarchs of the UOC and the Church of Greece consecrated a chapel of the Kyiv Caves saints on Corfu.
