Сonference on spiritual and secular science relations to be held at KDAiS
The Kyiv Theological Schools will hold a scholarly conference dedicated to the anniversaries of St. Peter Mohyla and Archbishop Theophan Prokopovich.
The Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary (KDAiS) will hold the 18th International Scientific and Practical Conference "Spiritual and Secular Education: History of Relations – Present – Prospects" on October 27, 2026, reports the press service of the KDAiS.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry of Kyiv and All Ukraine has blessed the holding of the annual scholarly forum. The organizers will devote the event to discussing the complex legacy of two outstanding hierarchs: 2026 marks the 430th anniversary of the birth of St. Peter Mohyla, Metropolitan of Kyiv, as well as the 290th anniversary of the death of Archbishop Theophan Prokopovich.
The organizers plan to pay particular attention to the reforms of theological education and the formation of the Kyiv theological tradition. St. Peter Mohyla played a key role in this process: he reformed the Kyiv Brotherhood School, turned it into a collegium, and introduced a fundamentally new system of instruction.
In turn, Archbishop Feofan Prokopovich, a graduate, professor, and rector of the academy, reorganized the system of teaching theology, and later became the chief architect of the synodal system of church administration.
The conference participants will discuss liturgical reforms, the historical path of the Kyiv Theological Schools, and the theological views of the two jubilarians. The organizing committee will also open sections on all the main theological disciplines, including biblical studies, patrology, and Church history. Instructors, postgraduate students, and students of both theological and secular educational institutions are invited to participate.
The forum will be held in a mixed format – participants will be able to present in person in Kyiv on the grounds of the Pokrovsky Holosiiv Monastery or join remotely. The organizers are accepting applications and texts of papers until October 15, 2026. The academy's publishing group will publish selected papers in the journal «Proceedings of the Kyiv Theological Academy».
As the UOJ reported, a new course on chaplaincy service has been introduced at the Kyiv Theological Schools.
