Ukrainian sued over donations to UOC church in Zinkiv
A Poltava region resident has filed a lawsuit seeking to have donations to a UOC church declared illegal.
Andriy Klymenko, a resident of Poltava region, has filed a lawsuit in Poltava’s Shevchenkivskyi District Court seeking to prohibit parishioner Vladyslav Kushnirenko from providing financial support to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s Nativity of Christ parish in the town of Zinkiv, according to the Poltavshchyna news outlet.
The lawsuit was prompted by documents published by the church’s rector, Fr. Ioann Babych, confirming that Kushnirenko has been a longtime parishioner and regularly makes donations to the religious community.
The plaintiff is asking the court to declare the donor’s actions illegal and prohibit him from supporting the church in the future. The Zinkiv religious community and Ukraine’s State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience (DESS) have been named as third parties in the proceedings.
Judge Natalia Tymoshenko declined to move forward with the lawsuit due to procedural errors, failure to pay the court fee, and missing required documents. The plaintiff was given 10 days to correct the deficiencies.
As the UOJ previously reported, a UOC believer in Rivne was put on trial for allegedly “insulting” the OCU.
