UGCC cleric slammed for wearing clothes with Nazi unit insignia
A historian criticized a UGCC cleric over photos showing him wearing clothing bearing symbols of the Waffen-SS Galicia Division.
Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) cleric and military chaplain Mykhailo Hredil has come under criticism for posting photographs of himself wearing clothing bearing insignia and symbols associated with the Waffen-SS Galicia Division.
Historian Marta Havryshko, who holds a PhD in history, drew attention to the priest's photographs. She shared images showing the cleric wearing a patch of the Waffen-SS Galicia Division in one photo, a T-shirt featuring the same division's insignia and the slogan "My Honor Is Loyalty" in another, and posing in front of a portrait of Stepan Bandera in a third.
Mykhailo Hredil serves as rector of a UGCC church in Horodok, Lviv region, heads the Apostolska Chota civic organization, and is a recipient of the Stepan Bandera Prize awarded by the Lviv Regional Council.
The UOJ previously reported on Hredil's plans to make a film about a terrorist attack carried out by an OUN militant in Poland.
