Sumy Eparchy venerates miraculous Korsun-Shpylivka Theotokos Icon
Celebrations honoring the Mother of God’s icon known as the “Restorer of Sight” were held at Sumy Cathedral and concluded with a car procession around the city.
Festive services were held at the Transfiguration Cathedral in Sumy to commemorate the Korsun-Shpylivka Icon of the Mother of God, known as the “Restorer of Sight,” the Sumy Eparchy reports.
The festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Yevlohiy of Sumy and Okhtyrka, concelebrated by clergy of the eparchy. During the service, clergy and faithful offered prayers for Ukraine, its soldiers, displaced persons, and all those affected by the war.
In his sermon following the Gospel reading, the Metropolitan recalled the history of the miraculous icon’s appearance and called for prayers seeking the intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos for the Sumy region.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, the clergy held a service of glorification before the icon, and Metropolitan Yevlohiy read the Sumy Prayer to the Mother of God for peace and the protection of the Holy Church. The cathedral community also hosted a festive meal for pilgrims who had come from parishes across the eparchy.
The celebrations concluded with a car procession carrying the miraculous icon around Sumy. Held by clergy of the eparchy with the blessing of the ruling hierarch, the procession included blessings for the city’s residents and prayers to the Heavenly Intercessor for peace.
As the UOJ previously reported, a sick woman in Sofia had been miraculously healed before the Hawaiian Icon of the Mother of God.
