Kamianske Eparchy honors Dnipro Icon of the Mother of God for first time
A festive service was held at a cathedral in Kamianske, where the Dnipro Icon of the Mother of God was brought out for veneration by the faithful for the first time.
St. Nicholas Cathedral in Kamianske hosted its first solemn services celebrating the Dnipro Icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, according to the Kamianske Eparchy.
The Divine Liturgy was presided over by Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kamianske and Tsarychanka. Archbishop Sylvester of Bilohorodka, rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary (KDAiS), also took part in the celebration. Eparchial clergy concelebrated with the hierarchs, while the KDAiS choir sang the liturgical hymns.
Before the Liturgy, the clergy chanted an akathist to the Most Holy Theotokos, during which the newly discovered Dnipro Icon was brought out for the veneration of the faithful for the first time. The holy icon was then solemnly placed in its permanent location above the cathedral’s Royal Doors.
During the service, special prayers were offered for peace in Ukraine, deliverance from the enemy, the Holy Church, the authorities, and the armed forces.
The veneration of the Dnipro Icon was established in the recent history of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church at the initiative of Metropolitan Volodymyr of Kamianske, with the blessing of the UOC Primate, following the icon’s discovery. The faithful hope that the newly discovered icon will become a heavenly intercessor for the Dnipropetrovsk region and all of Ukraine.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that Metropolitan Onuphry had called on the faithful to pray to the Mother of God for peace in Ukraine.
