UCCRO slams peace initiatives by "certain Western countries" on Ukraine
UCCRO members urged the West to tighten sanctions against Russia and stop trying to appease the aggressor.
The Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO) has criticized the peace initiatives of representatives of "certain Western countries," calling attempts to appease Russia "wrong".
In a special statement, the organization's members opposed Western politicians' desire to "normalize relations with Russia" and called for "resolute and consistent support for Ukraine." The UCCRO also proposed to "increase sanctions pressure on Russia."
Earlier, Donald Trump urged Kyiv to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries, accusing the Ukrainian leadership of escalating the conflict. "Ukraine should strive to put an end to this war. Zelensky should strive to put an end to this war, and if he doesn't want to, I think it will lead to very bad consequences," the US president said. "Russia is a very big country, they have a lot of people... Ukraine doesn't have that many people. And it's time to make a deal." In addition, US presidential special envoy Steve Witkoff called Vladimir Putin a "humanist" for releasing American hostage Stephen Hubbard, with which Trump himself agreed.
Earlier, the UOJ wrote why the UCCRO should be renamed the "State Service for Religious Affairs".
